The Black Death has never looked so cuddly! Plushy, bulbous dolls fashioned after various diseases and undesirable conditions. Divided into sections like Calamities, Maladies, and Critters, these stuffed animals put cute, wide-eyed faces on ulcers, dust mites, and flesh-eating streptococcus (which comes with a little knife and fork.)

This week’s Oddity was discovered when the Chateau made a field trip to San Francisco’s Exploratorium to check out the amazing Cabaret Mechanical Theatre exhibit. After spending the afternoon playing with optical illusions and dancing in that staple of all science museums worth their salt, the requisite run-in-front-of-the-screen-and-watch-all-the-colors-follow-you room, we happened to glance over at the gift shop, which resulted in a “what the hell is THAT?!” and a quick detour inside to find Giant Microbes, a line of stuffed animals fashioned after diseases and nasty health conditions, all rendered in cuddly plush. Behold mono, pictured above, with her flirty little eyelashes. Ebola, earaches, bad breath, and more are available on the site, and run quite cheap at about six dollars a pop.

This site offers a build-your-own-fall page, as well as ready-made pieces. The rest of the site is a smorgasboard of good stuff: horror tees, Puppet Terrors toys, body jewelry, a little goth decor, erotic sculpture from Boxing Katrina and morbid photography from Beaux Sedwick, Special Effects dyes, and Amalthea’s own line of bath and body goods.

A portfolio site for self-professed glitter tart Robbin, who offers a gallery of original pop-art paintings centering around early childhood as well as “genderblurred” themes. She also maintains “Auntie Mame’s Closet,” a small collection of 60’s-80’s vintage clothing available via auction. Don’t miss her page on glamourbombing, a fascinating hybrid of discordianism and fae magick.

FeMaledictions, where shea butter has never looked so sinister, is proud to announce some new soaps for the upcoming Hallows’ Eve season. SCara’s original designs continue on the theme of using natural ingredients to craft creepy little bath and body goods, and recent additions to her site include fierce little pumpkins and skulls, scented with her Pumpkinhead and Dia De Los Muertos perfumes, respectively.
It’s hard not to love a shop that makes pentagrams out of the gift wrapping.
Baphomet is rendered in kosher-grade olive oil, with an impressive amount of detail, and available in your choice of scent.
As always, rich lather and heavy scent are a hallmark of Scara’s creations, so these are great to use in the shower for body wash. And for one of the best soap designs ever, don’t miss her Rosemary’s Baby Beds.
