
Working from the juxtapositions of flesh and metal, organic and industrial, and ancient and futuristic, artist Melina Hammer has assembled a tantalizing gallery of tactile sculptures – fetishists may consider her work the S&M equivalent of fine jewelry – possessing the kind of imagination that looks at a common household spoon and see the potential for a flogger. And then goes about creating it out of patinated forged copper and lathed bronze, with the interior lined in moveable spikes.
