Pagan jewelling: a phenomenon that in pre-internet times chose very particular venues within which to manifest itself. Pentacles and pentagrams weren’t exactly things you could pick up at the mall, and required some digging – mail order catalogs in the back of metal magazines where you could also snag an anarchy pendant, flea markets that would scatter them into biker rings and slave bracelets, or if you were lucky, chancing across an artisan at a craft show who’d load them up with chunks of amethyst.

Back in the 80’s and 90’s, they were rarely encountered in mediums besides pewter, a shame considering how often these cherished pieces double as altar tools on the fly and deserve more focused craftsmanship. Happily, that’s not the case today, and not only can you find a wide range of artistic interpretations, but customization means getting every element personalized to your needs, right down to which phase of the moon it’s created in.

Pagan Treasures snake amber pentagram necklaceFive pentacles, linked by silver, amber, and snakes. It looks like the kind of precisely arranged symbology and materials that are pulled directly from a rich, intense dream – and according to the item description, it is. From Pagan Treasures. Note from the seller: Mention Chateau Bizarre when making a purchase in my shop, I will add a little extra present in thanks for your patronage.

Groovy Moon Creations purple pentacle moon necklaceThe moon and the star, in a Victorianesque fusion of antiqued silver, glitter, and Swarovski. Just the kind of regal piece to pair with a long black gown. From Groovy Moon Creations.
Purple Cat Jewels spiderweb pentacle earringsFor a more rustic look, the pentacles here appear within heart-shaped little spiderwebs, with each creature posed next to her handiwork, finished with a fall of blood. Radiant! From Purple Cat Jewels.
