Known for a distinctive cartoon style where stiff Victorian portraiture is subverted into Siamese twins, Pez-dispensing slit throats, and mouthy mermaids, the Dame has now turned to spooky dollcraft and witchy tees. Carter, who publishes her own works as well as a few choice writers, with an old-world aesthetic and meticulous construction firmly in mind. No sloppy photocopying here – each book is handmade, often involving power drills and crochet thread, and content ranges from notebook entries and found texts to photobooks.
