link submission guidelines.

Got something interesting to share? We’re currently taking suggestions for our various features:

  • The Third Umlaut: This Monday series is a critique of 80’s pop-metal videos, specifically through fashion, atmosphere, and narrative – the more baroque, the better. There must be at least one video vixen present who really needs a better backstory than what the director has given her.
  • YouTube Tuesdays: A dig through the kindness of strangers for cult gems, found footage, the late-night and low budget. Think Night Flight, 120 Minutes, Headbanger’s Ball, Liquid Television, Andy Warhol’s 15 Minutes, Troma flicks, tiny little punk rock public access TV shows from around the country.
  • Haute or Not: an oldie but goodie “bad fashion” series that we’re considering for revival. Please don’t send mere ugly dresses – send us the absurd, the grotesque, the grand artistic statements gone seriously WTF.
  • Link Gardens: These are floating posts that go up as soon as there are at least seven of them. They can be news, blog posts, weird discoveries, favorite old websites, see below for what we like.
  • As far as recommendations for Etsy Highlights and nominations for the Oddity of the Week, the door is always open.

YES:

  • Artists and rockstars and figures of creative notoriety.
  • Old school goth, deathrock, industrial, punk, New Wave/New Romantic, the various underbellies of the 80’s. The late 60’s, 70’s, and 90’s are OK, too. And, of course, metal. \m/
  • The darker waters of pop culture.
  • Fashion writing from confirmed eccentrics. Good advice on looking good when you’re strange.
  • Haunted houses, funhouses, abandoned houses, urban rot. Gorgeous architectural visuals.
  • Well-executed discordianism. Even though the term “culture jamming” sounds passe by now, we still enjoy it when it’s done well.
  • Old rock’n'roll fashion advertisements, catalog photos, and other vintage excavations.
  • Unbridled absurdity is always welcome at the Chateau.

NO:

  • Celebrities. FOR THE LOVE OF EVERYTHING THAT IS GOOD AND PURE AND HOLY, NO CELEBRITIES.
  • High fashion. (Except for Haute or Not-style stuff.)
  • Mall fashion.
  • Eras before 1967.
  • Taxidermy.
  • Blog posts that are overloaded with keywords.
