Speaking of The Lady Crabcake – I have a goth Barbie whose wardrobe is in the midst of a badly needed update, little black flares and platform sneakers and stuff, I just meant to get her some clothes until I ran across this ebay seller who specializes in Halloweeny doll furnishings and HAD to get her a companion – look, it’s Barbie Pollywog!

Anyway…
This week’s pics are actually from last week, before the grand uprooting.

Pollywog absolutely loved hanging out on the perch by the window, and had a thing for veiling herself in the curtains while watching the birds. Unfortunately my room doesn’t have a setup like that anymore, but she seems content to park herself on my bed for the moment.

Bella was born cursed with adorable velvet feet. They’re the cutest little things poking out of her chenille coat of silky fur, so even as they’re kicking the blood out of your hands, you’re still all awwwwwwww.

…while the demon gives herself a bath.

Fast forward three years, where the wide eyes have melted into a 24/7 disquieting gaze. Which is at its maximum power when lurking on top of the toilet seat and waiting for the obliviously showering human to throw back the curtain.

So, this was taken when Bella had not quite yet emerged from her scraggly little orphan phase but still looks a hell of a lot better than when we first got her (I’ll probably post that next week, so you can all see how far she’s come) and there’s Pollywog’s maternal instincts on display. I feel bad for Polly, who was supposed to be the baby sister (RIP Sophie), and who not only wound up getting her head tackled by a hyperactive infant feline on a regular basis, but mouthfuls of thick, shaggy Bella wool, too. Although the way she goes trotting after the little one, ready to dole out some horseplay of her own, I don’t think she minds too much.

Together they’re like a little bit of Octobertime decor. They look like there should be a fluttering candle or bouquet of black roses growing out of their heads.

This week’s cat pic was supposed to be “awwwww, Bella jumped up on the bed to cuddle with Pollywog and Pollywog’s grooming her ears and they never really do this anymore and isn’t it so cute AWWWWWWWW” and instead my cat channels Slayer’s bass player.

You know that old trope about people who resemble their pets and vice versa?
There is probably no better graphic representing the kind of week I just had.

And this is what lurks on my bedroom floor. I often catch it staring at me from across the room. It can be unnerving.

It’s a good idea to have a scratching post if you have a cat. It’s absolutely crucial if you have a Bella. Better a ramp of sisal than my tender flesh, which is her second favorite place to bite down and kick with her back legs.

The new post! Not only is there fresh sisal, but a perch. What a great spot for birdwatching! And rolling around, since plush carpeting is such a novelty to hardwood-raised paws! And fighting! What a great height from which to smack another cat! Yay!

There has thus far been no sharing. This appears to be a one-at-a-time perch.

This really does say it all about them: Pollywog flashing her Bette Davis eyes, Bella ready to star in a low-budget horror movie. By the way, Bella’s expression never changes.
