OK everyone – some changes in the directory. We have some new tags, some updated tags, and things have gotten shifted around to make it a lot easier to walk through the Chateau. It’s why posting has been a little slow over the past few days – lots of shuffling.
Among the highlights:
Corsetry has been separated out from Lingerie and given its own category. Antique designs have been weeded out so if you’re looking for bloomers, hit Victorian. The rubber/leather/fetish stuff is also now relegated to the Boudoir, basically so the classic lacy stuff doesn’t get drowned out by catalogs that feature very specific tastes and are already well-represented in another section.
We officially have enough stores to open a section for Horror, Psychobilly & Zombies. The main difference between this category and goth is that goth tends to be sinister and macabre. Horror dispenses with the menace and just splatters the blood. Whee!
80’s, Emo & Electro has finally been given its own category. One more place besides Punk to put the skinny jeans. And neon leopard.
Long overdue for this one: Rock & Metal. m/
Revamped and Restyled is no more. But we do have a spot for Customized Tees.
Medieval & Renaissance has been given its own section, due to the tidal wave of Victorian, Steampunk, and Pirates.
The Vintage & Rockabilly section was another tag getting too bloated, so it’s been separated into Pinup, Retro & Rockabilly for brand-new old-fashioned fashion, and Vintage for the actual vintage.
Psy-trance, Elven & Playa has been broken away from Cyber, the main difference being neon trim and the presence of rayguns. This is where you can find the leather-fairy stuff – the tulle-fairy stuff is over in Masks, Wings & Fae, although there’s some overlap of the jaggedy pixie stuff.
Streetwear was a nebulous term to begin with and ended up as a kind of catch-all for hoodies, indie stuff, messenger bags, and anything vaguely normalish. The Hoodies & T-shirts have been given their own section, and the indie/street/very “now” stuff that can’t be tied to a specific era or scene is termed Modern Glamour.
We’re considering a tag FAQ to lay out how exactly we categorize the shops, and help direct readers towards the stuff they’re looking for. But for now, I hope this makes it easier to navigate through our site.
